More Dick Bruna Books: Tilly & Tessa 1969

Last week I found a lot of eight Dick Bruna books on eBay for less than dinner for two at Carl's Jr., and the books arrived today. The oldest one, Tilly and Tessa was printed in 1969. It is the charming tale of twin girls.

I couldn't find any 1969 copies of Tilly and Tessa online, but the printing looked just like that in the 1963 books, high quality screen printing.

The illustrations are very rich and saturated with color. That's one of the great things about these books. The printing changed over time, and eventually the book pages would be glossier, thinner, and frankly, cheaper-- more like what we might see today.

Can't wait to sit down and read them all. I will share each one when I get a chance. To think, all this interest in Dick Bruna started with a quilt!

  1. So nice to see your interest in Dick Bruna Bill. Did you hear about his museum in Utrecht (my hometown) in the Netherlands? http://nijntjemuseum.nl/?lang=en
